"Urmaterie" Erik Sturm, Stuttgart

The special exhibition titled „Urmaterie“ (Urmateria) at the AIR MUSEUM is all about dust. Dust is everywhere and undesireable; at the same time it is hardly visible with the naked eye – unless it's accumulated. Erik Sturm loves the facts that dust carries informations about our past and uses it as his artificial material.

Erik Sturm looks at his city in a special way. In his artworks, he sets out with public space and traces of the past that are engraved in the cities. Erik Sturm deals with the perception of objects and their history by sculpturing with findings from the city. By just moving them into another context or minimal invasion, he opens new perspectives on everyday phenomenona an on our contact with the public space.

Erik Sturm (born 1982) lives and works in Stuttgart, Germany. Studied sculpture at State Academy of visual art in Stuttgart (Prof. Christian Jankowski) and at Hungarian Academy of visual art Budapest (Prof. Allan Siegel). In 2012 he founded the „Projektraum LOTTE“ in Stuttgart together with friends, where many projects and events were realised since then.
